GRIMES: “Rather in the manner of, but not really a cryptogram, the above image of cacti (who don’t appear in the story) is perfectly readable.

Starting at the upper left corner, ’rounding’ the square, and then down to the second row to do likewise, you’ll get a (very) reductive approximation of the story content itself.

Albeit in puns and so forth I couldn’t find places for in the panel headers.

“For those unwilling or genetically incapable of reading upside down–(it’s not in a handy magazine, after all)–the letters say:

WELL’S GONE DRY – P/ERFUME ON HAND – B/LOW BY BLOW – IT’S/ A BREEZE – MYSTERY// SALVES – MISERY/ SLAVES – QUIT NEE/DLING ME YOU PR/ICK – UP IN SMOKE .
