Hello and welcome to the Rick Grimes fan site!

Where do I begin? Well, I will start by saying that I personally am not going to say too much on the subject of Cartoonist/Artist/Writer Rick Grimes’s strips/stories and what they mean to me, as I feel that my opinion is both irrelevant and blatantly obvious, as this tribute site is all the proof you need of that. I will however say (and stress) that this IS only a ‘fan’ site, though it does indeed have the blessing and participation of the Grimes himself, and should therefore be considered an, er…, “Official” fan site, or something… Anyway, I will let both the shrinee (?) and his work here speak for itself. One last thing; I am no “writer” of any sort, therefore please excuse the obvious and no doubt constant typos, grammatical errors and downright ineptness of my own writing on this site, thank you.

Now, the main reason behind the creation of this web site is so that fans and those curious about Grimes can now learn more about him and read more of his elusive, frustratingly underrated, and overlooked works.

As mentioned on the {former}* home/about page, you will find here the following sections/pages: this regularly updated (when possible) news/updates scroll; a  brief biography and comprehensive bibliography; a published works gallery (featuring published strips and stories, covers, etc.), a comments section (with memories/stories/comments from fellow artists and fans); a section for other works (ie unpublished or undeveloped strips/stories/art); three pages of other recommended cartoonists & painters, authors/writers, films and TV, and music worth checking out; a subscribe section; and finally, the usual assorted links, thanks/disclaimer, and e-mail pages.

With regards to the Rick Grimes artwork itself, I have personally been granted permission (via hand-written letter) to host Rick’s work as featured on the various pages of this non-profit fan site. Please see the thanks /disclaimer page for further information.

Thanks to the following people for their help and assistance (in various forms) with this site: Stephen R. Bissette, Rick Veitch, Jed Alexander, Sam Kujava, Ron Zalme, Mark Martin, Mike Sterling, Jay Kinney, Joe Kubert, Sir Real, Jim Wheelock, Mark Patterson, Sam Kujava and of course, to the man himself – Rick Grimes. Anyway… enjoy the site!  {–Ryan H. 1/’09}

FIRST NEWS POST

— On December 15th, 2008 (Australia), I received a handwritten reply from Rick, after writing him via post the previous fortnight, with news that he would try to help out in some way and “contribute regularly” with this fan site. Here is that reply:

Ryan!
Got your package day after Thanksgiving, the 28th.
Would love to contribute regularly.
Busily gathering additions and writing and xeroxes.
Will try to get it all out to you before xmas.
Look forward to it.
Enjoy your summer,
Grimes

Then, I received another message (this time a mammoth package!) on December 30th, 2008. To receive the prior kind reply was one thing, but this was most unexpected. What I was sent by Rick covers everything regarding his art, full stop. Rick’s 90-page reply to my Q & A inquiry now appears on this site in various sections, followed by: — ‘Rick Grimes (December 22, 2008)’. Throughout these passages, you’ll find quite a few surprises and pretty much everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Rick and his art, not to mention news on future projects and further site contributions.

So, great news for us Grimes fans! I hope those reading this enjoy the site for what it is, and I will do my best (with Rick’s help) to further improve on the content, information, and so forth when and if possible. Enjoy!

Foreword

(2) 'With It'

Hereafter beginneth (againeth) all the former site‘s news updates, chronologically, at least in the spirit of same, if not identical. Being that this is a free template, on another host, certain small things will not be possible. Links here are red, for example; and tho I had wished to continue with the occasional ‘odd biz’ extras, embedding videos here is an extra sixty bucks per annum, so that’ll have to go by the wayside, too. (I will retain the verbal links, however).

You may eventually note also the departure of covers and other contributors, (but only to this scroll ). They will be preserved on the ‘Published In…’ page I intend to rebuild in the coming month/s.

Once all the old posts are restored–after a brief heads up again from me, your new fmehditor–I’ll begin picking up where we left off last year, with not only the now ‘old’ new news, but also the trewly new news.

As the forties movie police dispatchers used to say, “Thaat iz allll…”

An’ It’s Deja Vu Allover Again

MIZZUZ SLAPDOODLE drw 10 28 i 11 14 011

Hello, an’ a “Mighty Heighdy!!” from Mizzuz Slapdoodle and all her fellow krips ‘at sea’.

No, you haven’t woken up in an alternate world where Hitler won the war, The Flintstones are still shown in prime time, and for every wanna be great (tho’ little known) web dive there are two just like it. Our beloved (by us anyway) grimes fansite is no more. But now reincarnates here upon these dark scrolls.

My good friend & co-conspirator t’other side of the world, Ryan H. informed me a few months ago that the former host he’d always used (those five + years now) wouldn’t accept his software anymore: we hadn’t been able to post updates (and there has been news), nor add anything else.

So, anyone interested in how this new site’s forefather looks, too late to take a gander or three. But as much of it as could sensibly be replaced here, has been. So, look around and find most of what you remember. Or discover more. Some new bits and pieces have already begun creeping in.

R.H. is also taking his leave, but will remain handy to advise or assist yours troodley in keeping it all resuscitated and merrily chugging away. Granted, these dervish days it’s no staggering news that such change is happening, and the web making process may have arguably become a game even for the simpleton. But tho I’ll try to make it nice as can be here, and retain most everything, it may wind up being like the Black Knight in Monty Python: one big chunk having little left to grab you with.

Hope to hear from Ryan again here, in future, perhaps in more ‘faux’ interviews, or comments. Thanks to him, and all of you, however few, who have visited and enjoyed my work, and the site (and friend) that so cheerfully allowed it.

Let us bow our heads, for what was…and on with the show…
