The Useless Cookie Jar

The Useless Cookie Jar

green apple cookie jar

ceramic slices, hollow, but
with entirely closed surfaces,

skewed on the table a few
rocking on their backs;

when put together —

(some sort of saucerlike cradle
beneath the whole jar’s bottom
would be needed,

but is not visible) —

the slices’ ends are not cut off
and there is no inverse lid
about to cover them.

Instead, all the slices form
the whole green apple jar

but, rather than a stem
there is only an axial hole
the width & length of
a pencil.

There is no reason to suppose
this was other than deliberate.

No room for any cookies.
